Obituary of Larry F. Shaver

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Larry Frederick Shaver, born July 22, 1935, to Pearl and Fred Shaver of Turnwood in the Beaverkill Valley passed peacefully on August 27, 2023, surrounded by his family, following a short illness.

Following graduation from Livingston Manor Central School, Larry attended Cornell University, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Animal Husbandry.  He developed a dairy farm business with his father, Fred.  Larry was a local leader and authority in the dairy industry and led many organizations, including the Cornell Cooperative Extension and Dairymen’s League.  He later transitioned to beef cattle farming and custom home building.  Larry was Justice of the Peace for the Town of Hardenburgh for 15 years.  In later years, he worked for Beaverkill Mountain Corp. in property management.

Larry was predeceased by his parents and brother, Edwin Shaver.  He is survived by his first wife, Betty H. Shaver, his three children Dale, Teri and Tami; and by his second wife, Judy, and step children Vicki, Guy, Valerie and Lisa, along with 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Larry will always be remembered and cherished for his love of farming and nature and his tremendous sense of humor and wit.  In later years, he would love to sit and tell stories of the good old days up in the head of the Beaverkill and the many escapades that were inherent with the lifestyle of living in the country.  Larry was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  He will be missed but his family is very grateful for the many wonderful years they shared with him and the treasure trove of memories and stories that will forever linger with them.

May he rest in eternal peace.

If desired, donations may be made to our local “LMCS FFA Chapter”, PO Box 947, Livingston Manor NY 12758.
