James Edward Slater passed away on January 13, 2022. He was 36. He was born on July 18, 1985 in Monticello, NY; where he attended Monticello Central Schools. James was the sixth of 11 children. He had a free spirit and a very big heart. When he could help someone he would and was always there for a lending hand, he always liked making you laugh or just a protector.. James is survived by 2 sons Jayvion Slater Egan and Jakob Slater Egan of Livingston Manor NY, a god daughter Kerah Wallace of Livingston Manor NY., a beloved mother Deborah Oates of Clinton, NC, two fathers Chauncey Slater of Monticello, NY and Fulton Oates of Clinton NC., 5 brothers Derrick Oates of Florida, Michael Slater of Monticello, NY, Abi Slater (Kelley) of Rock Hill, NY, Tyrone Oates of NC, Fulton Oates of Clinton NC. 5 sisters Tanita Owens of Monticello, NY, Rose Slater of Clinton NC, Natasha Oates of Clinton NC, Katie Oates, of Killeen TX, Alana Oates (D Money) of Monticello NY.,16 nephews, 21 nieces and a great niece and a great nephew. James was also survived by 4 brothers from another mother, Eddie Drayton of Monticello, NY, Stanley Hunter of NY, Andrew Armstead of Monticello, NY and Frank Brinson of NY. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 10-11:00am.
