Lawrence M. “Larry” Genovese, of Roscoe, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016. He was 67. He was the son of the late Robert Genovese and Jean Lundari, born on January 1, 1949 in Manhattan, NY. Larry was a proud graduate of Queens College who then went on to further his education at St. John’s University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education and ultimately earned his P.D. from Hofstra University in School Administration. He started his teaching career in Livingston Manor then went on to Half Hollow Hills School District where he retired after 25 years. His love of teaching and development of his beloved organization Helping Hands earned him a place in Who’s Who in American Education. He was also owner and operator of a real estate business called Private Properties and in his retirement he helped his son start and run Deckertown Garage. He was an active member of his community belonging to the Livingston Manor Lions, Livingston Manor Masonic Lodge 791, and Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed being around people whether it was playing the piano, telling jokes or just having a cup of coffee. He frequently took in plays and musicals, attending the Forestburgh playhouse and enjoying movies at the Callicoon theater. Larry was loved by many and he was known for his generosity, kindness, love of cooking and entertaining in his home in Roscoe. He is survived by his son Lawrence Genovese II and his wife Shannon; Lawrence’s mother Laura Genovese; his granddaughter Isabella Marie Genovese; his nieces Andrea Genovese-Candela and Torene David; sister-in-law Linda Genovese; and cousins Hector Barsali, Tom Joh, Beau, and Arthur. He is predeceased by his brothers Robert and Thomas Genovese. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 5 to 8pm at Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, 1785 Deer Park Ave. Deer Park, NY 11729. A visitation will also take place from 1:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Colonial-Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12758. A masonic service will take place on Sunday following the visitation at the funeral home.
