Obituary of Melvin Houghtaling

Melvin E. Houghtaling Melvin “Big Mel” Houghtaling, of Woodbourne, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at home. He was 57. He was the son of the late Allie Houghtaling Jr. and Nettie Mae Wright, born on November 27, 1958 in Monticello, NY. He worked as a funeral home attendant and handy man for many years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time playing grandpa. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. He leaves behind his son Melvin “Lil Mel” Houghtaling and his wife Venus of Loch Sheldrake; his grandchildren Everett Nolan, Sadie, Gage and Bailey Houghtaling; and his siblings Geraldine Rundle and her husband Delbert of Loch Sheldrake, Glen Shaw and her husband Paul Muhlig of Parksville, Randy E. Houghtaling of Monticello and Lawrence D. Houghtaling of Woodbourne. He is predeceased by his brother Allie “Gene” Houghtaling. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 7 to 9pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788.
