Obituary of Richard A Simmons

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…” – Ecclesiastes 3:1 Richard A. “Rick” Simmons, 60, a lifelong resident of Hurleyville, NY, died peacefully at his home on June 11, 2016. Rick was born in Liberty NY on January 4, 1956, to the late Herbert George Simmons and Marguerite “Mickey” (Bowers) Simmons. Rick was raised in Hurleyville NY with his three brothers. Rick spent his life doing what he loved best. A self-taught mechanic, he made a career of repairing all things big and small, up to his retirement. Rick had a passion for old-time Rock and Roll, Harley-Davidsons, Bob Dylan, NASCAR, The Dallas Cowboys, Reading, Fishing, his dog Jack and most of all his greatest joys, his children and grandchildren. A lifelong member of the Hurleyville fire department, he was former assistant chief and commissioner and member of the department’s soft ball league. The fire department was always an extended family of Rick’s. Survivors include his devoted children: Michelle Waychoff and her husband David, of Colorado Springs, CO; Aaron Simmons and his fiancé Fallon Brown of Hurleyville; Kristin Simmons of Livingston Manor; and Shane Simmons of Livingston Manor. His grandchildren; Kaleb, Brian, Gabriel, Xander, Elijah, Katelynn, Jaidon and Kendall, and his brothers Don and his wife Virginia and Ray and his wife Karen, and his step-sisters Dawn and Joann. Rick is predeceased by his parents, his grandmother Adelaide, his brother Mike and his mother and father-in-law, Ted and Shirley Bagailuk. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, from 7 to 9 pm and on Thursday, June 16, from 10 to 11 am, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne NY, A firematic service will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday. A funeral service will follow and be held in Rick’s honor on Thursday at 11 o’clock. Arrangements were made under Colonial-Bryant Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
