Obituary of Catherine Kush

Home: Liberty, New York USA Place of Birth: Montreal, Canada Obituary Catherine Kush Liberty, NY Catherine Kush, of Liberty, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Seaview Hospital & Rehab Nursing Home, Staten Island, where she was a resident. She was 96. Born on Sept. 2, 1919 in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of Richard and Nora Oliver. The family moved to Liberty, NY when she was 2 years old and lived there until illness caused her to reside in Staten Island. She attended St. Peter's Parochial School and Liberty High School. Prior to WW II, she met and married Charles Kush from Pittsburgh, PA. During the war, with Charles fighting in Africa and Italy, Catherine worked in a factory in Hattiesburg, MS making ammunition. Returning to Liberty post war, she held various clerical, administrative and medical assistant jobs working for a physician; a nurse's aide in Maimonides Hospital, at Sears, for a lawyer and as a housekeeper at St. Peter's Rectory. Catherine volunteered endlessly for St. Peter's Church as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, altar server and calling weekly bingo. She was always there assisting others; driving her younger friends to church, the store , bingo, MD appointments. She was a skilled artist doing both watercolor and oil paintings, preferring oils, all of which she gave away to relatives and friends. Most of all, Catherine enjoyed being with her family and her home was always open to others; a young girl in her early teens who lost both parents; a young mother and baby who were without a home; caring for her late sister, Mary Connell, in her final days. Her husband, Charles, died in 1957, leaving Catherine to raise her four daughters who survive her: Nancy Lange and her husband Joseph of Staten Island, Joanne Martin of Carmel, NY, Christine Alongi and her husband Peter and Joyce Wright, all of Ft. Myers, FL. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, James Martin. Visiting hours will be Friday January 8, 2016 from 2 PM to 6 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty, NY 12754. Catherine's funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Peter's Church in Liberty, NY. Fr. William Scafidi will officiate. Burial will follow the mass at St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty, NY.
