Obituary of Joseph F. Lubnewski

Home: Smallwood, New York USA Place of Birth: Dickson City, Pennsylvania USA Obituary Joseph F. Lubnewski Smallwood, NY Joseph F. Lubnewski, a longtime resident of Smallwood, NY, entered into eternal rest on Friday October 13, 2017 at the age of 91. Joe was the son of the late Adolph and Anna Lubniewski and was born on December 13, 1925 in Dickson City, PA. and is the last survivor of seven children. After graduating from Dickson City High School, Joe worked in the hotels in the Borscht Belt in NY. He worked many jobs but mainly as a bartender at which time he met many entertainers, especially comedians. He learned their routines and told them at every family function. After the hotels closed, he worked in a liquor store, most recently working at White Lake Wine & Spirits until this past June. He was an avid fisherman until one day he said, "I'm not losing any more sleep over these fish." And so his fishing career ended and he returned to football and baseball. He was a former member of the Monticello Elks Lodge and was a Past Master and member of the Monticello Lodge # 532 F&AM. Joe always said he wasn't a rich man but he was a happy man. We will miss him very much. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor at home; daughter, Joann Conroy and her husband Richard of Smallwood, NY; grandchildren, Christopher Conroy of Silver Spring, MD and Cheryl Goetchius and her husband Charles (chip) of Masten Lake, NY; great-grandchildren, Paige Innis and Joseph Goetchius and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son Joseph A. Lubnewski; his brothers and their wives, Anthony and Anna, Edward and Frances and Leonard and Lovey and by his sisters and their husbands, Helen and John Gavala, Sophie and Frank Chorba and Jean and Frank Shemonsky. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties and a special thanks to Marie and Dennis Dietrich. A quote from Joe's beloved wife, Eleanor reads, "I feel blessed that we have taken this journey together. "Til we meet again," All my love, Eleanor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Peter's Church in Monticello, NY. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Rt 17B, Bethel will follow the mass.
