Obituary of Leon John Balanovich

Leon “Lee” John Balanovich, Jr., of Liberty, NY, lost his long battle with cancer on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the age of 61.

Lee was born to parents Leon Sr. and Esther Balanovich on December 31, 1956 in Pompton Plains, NJ. He grew up as one of five and attended Liberty High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and the Army National Guard.

He retired from the NY State Corrections after 34 years. He was a very handy man who loved to fish and hunt.  He was a member of the hunting club and was a charismatic friend who was always laughing and loved by many. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons and passing on his knowledge of fishing.

Lee is survived by his mother Esther Balanovich; daughter, Tina Barker and her husband Douglas, his grandsons; Darian McCown and Westley Barker, his siblings; Dave Balanovich, Denise Labonte, Laura Dobell, and Lynn Bivins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He is predeceased by his father Leon Balanovich Sr.

Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, July 14th from 11am - 1pm at Colonial Ramsay Funeral Home, 275 South Main Street, Liberty NY 12754. A funeral celebration will be held at the funeral home at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. A gathering and sharing of memories will follow at Loch Sheldrake Fireman's Park
