Leonard Steinberg, a longtime Liberty resident, passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Monday May 23, 2016 at his home. He was 81. The son of the late William and Sylvia Steinberg, he was born on May 28, 1934 in Manhattan.
Lenny was the retired owner-operator of South End Auto Parts in Liberty, NY. He was a US Army Veteran and an active member of his community. He was Past President and Charter Member of Liberty J. C.'s; a lifetime member of Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545, Past President (26 years of Presidency) of Liberty Lion's Club; A Liberty Village Trustee in 1974; a longtime member of Sullivan County Golf & Country Club in Liberty, NY and he was a member of the Catskill Region Antique Car Club.
Lenny leaves behind his devoted family; sons, Terry Steinberg of Liberty, Jerry Steinberg also of Liberty, Robert Steinberg (Allyson) of Middletown and David Townsend (Gail) of Liberty; daughters, Dina Jester and her companion Daniel Thalmann and Doreen Heimann of Grahamsville; his brother, Reuben Steinberg of the Villages, FL; his sister, Ida Fracasse of Glendora, CA; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Roberta Steinberg in 2002.
Visiting hours will be on Friday May 27, 2016 from 2 - 4 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty, NY. Liberty Elks services will be at 3 PM and Liberty Lions services will be at 3:45 PM. Rabbi Endre Stamler will officiate services at 4 PM at the funeral home. Military Honors burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty, NY.
