Obituary of Thelma Allen

Home: Parksville, New York USA Place of Birth: Harrison County, Georgia USA Obituary Thelma Gladys Maddox Allen Parksville, NY The sun shone brightly on Harrison County, Georgia, on July 17, 1918 when Thelma was born. Daughter of the late Arlonza Hicks and Wiley Maddox, she is the last child to pass away of her four brothers and three sisters. Thelma was in her 20's when she moved to Sullivan County and found employment as a domestic worker. She continued her education and attended nursing school, where upon completion; she received a Nurse's Aide Certificate. Thelma then gained employment at Community General Hospital in Sullivan County as an OR Technician, with Local 1199. She retired in 1977. Thelma gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. In her life, Thelma had membership in the following churches; Union Spring Baptist Church of Talladega, Alabama; the Baptist Church of Liberty, The First Baptist Church of Monticello (under the Pastorship of Rev. James Mathews) and "New Beginnings" Community Worship Center, Inc. of Liberty (under the Pastorship of Rev. Norman R. Graves). Thelma lived through Christ! There was not a day that went by, that you did not hear her exclaiming, "Hallelujah and Thank You Jesus!!!" When asked how she was doing, "I'm fine, thank the Lord" she would reply with a smile. Thelma loved to entertain her family and friends. She also loved to grow plants - African Violets were her favorite. She often stated, "I don't let the grass grow under my feet". She had travelled to the Bahama's three times and was on the "Price is Right" game show twice. Although Thelma did not have any children of her own, on February 4, 1959, she was blessed with a godchild named after her. She called her Daughter. After the passing of friends Marie and Alvin McIver, Thelma took on the role of mother to all three of their children, Thelma, Alvin and Jeannine, as well as her great-grandniece, Cora Parson Behune. On Saturday, March 5, 2016, God whispered the name of Thelma Gladys Maddox Allen, and she quietly left us to be with Him. She leaves to cherish her memory, her God-daughter, Thelma McIver of Parksville, NY, grand God-daughter, Laurice Renee Marie Budd (Ali) of Parksville, NY, Godchildren, Alvin McIver Jr. (Shelia) of Fayetteville, NC and Jeannine Parker (Rufus Jr.) of Waxhaw, NC, Roxanne Young of Poughkeepsie, NY and Great grand-niece, Cora Parson Bethune of Talladega, AL and a host of generations of nieces, nephews and friends.
