Obituary of Marya T Rodgers

Marya Rodgers, 83, of Kenoza Lake New York, passed away April 25, 2019.
She was born to the late Elizabeth and Leonardo Boelhouwer, January 29, 1936, in Amsterdam, Holland.  Marya graduated from a private Catholic school in Amsterdam.  She immigrated to the United States in 1953.  Where she lived with her parents in Brooklyn New York until 1958.  She worked at the Long Island College hospital as an X-Ray technician.
She married Rev. Kenneth Rodgers in 1958, the same year Kenneth graduated from Yale divinity.  Being part of a minister family they lived in Ocean Side NY for 4.5 years, Central Valley New York for 8.5 years, Torrington CT for 19 years, Pleasantville New NY for 6 years and have had a home in Kenoza Lake NY for 52 years and have lived fulltime in the area for the past 20 Years.  After Kenneth retired, Marya and Kenneth served the Kauneonga Lake and Mongaup Valley Methodist Churches.
Marya is survived by her husband:  Kennenth Rodgers; her two children:  Tom Rodgers, of Northlake Texas; and John Rodgers, of Torrington CT.  She is also survived by her granddaughter Olivia Rodgers and her brother Leo Boelhouwer.
Marya was a very kind and loving soul.   When she became your friend she treated you like family.  She also loved to reach out to perfect strangers to try to get a smile or make them feel a part of her world, just for a minute or two.  She loved the churches she served in.  She had served as a Sunday school teacher, office assistant, Kenneth’s right hand man, famous Escarole Soup and Lasagna at potluck dinners and helping people in need.   She loved music and the Ballet.  She supported the Shandelee Music festival locally.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kenoza Lake Methodist Church.
