Benton Liberty, NY Wayne Chandler Benton (AKA "B") 65, of Pine Island, Florida, since 2005 and a longtime resident of Liberty, New York, died August 18, 2016. He was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1951. Sports played a huge part in his life and while he knew a great deal about most sports, he was a real connoisseur when it came to baseball and football (following the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Redskins was his passion). He was a serious collector of sports memorabilia. Outspoken and direct, he was never afraid to "tell it like it is". You always knew where you stood with Wayne. Knowledgeable on topics ranging from history to life in general, Wayne's quick-witted sense of humor was always on display. He was known as an avid animal lover who would save a stray cat as well as feed the birds. He enjoyed cooking "his sauce" and celebrating all the major holidays. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be sent to CARE Catskill Animal Rescue League P.O. Box 522 Liberty, New York 12754. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 18, 2016 at the Liberty Cemetery at 2 P.M. and immediately following at Mr. G's Grille 70 Sullivan Avenue Liberty, New York. In honor of Wayne's passion for sports, those attending are invited to wear a sports team related item.
