Obituary of Melvin Powell

Home: Barefoot Bay, Florida USA Place of Birth: Brooklyn, New York USA Obituary Melvin Powell Barefoot Bay, FL formerly of Sullivan County NY Melvin Powell, 93, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Palm Garden of Vero Beach, FL. He was 93. The son of the late Samuel and Sylvia Lefkowitz Powell, he was born on September 24, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY. Melvin was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a Sergeant in the 731 Bomb Squadron and saw action in several battles in Europe and France. He was the recipient of 3 Overseas Service Bars and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars. He was a self-employed Poultry Farmer and he lived in Sullivan County from 1945 to 2004, when he retired to Florida with his wife, Muriel. He had also worked as a sales manager at Liberty Lumber Co. in Liberty, NY. He was a member of the Swan Lake Synagogue and the VFW and was a Pythian. He is survived by three sons, Jay Powell of New York, NY, Brian Powell and his husband, Rob Fulk, of Bloomington, Indiana and Glenn Powell and husband, Scott Kimberly, of Roseland, FL; daughter, Roberta Esposito and her husband, Rinaldo, of Gloversville, NY and two grandchildren, David and Olivia Esposito. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel Zipper Powell in 2007 and by his two sisters, Shirley Mason and Anita Resnick. Graveside services will be held at Swan Lake Synagogue Cemetery, Hysana Rd. Liberty, NY on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Noon. Funeral arrangements are by Ramsay's Funeral Homes Inc. Liberty, NY.
