Obituary of Walter F. Goodson

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Walter F. Goodson, of Livingston Manor, NY passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023 in the care of Roscoe Regional Healthcare.
Walt was born on October 26th, 1932 to Charles and Alice (McCabe) Goodson and was the youngest of their four children.  He was raised in Frankfort, NY and was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica.  After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during his two-year enlistment.  Upon return, he obtained his Associate degree in Engineering.
Walt married his wife Laura (predeceased) in 1962, and over the next few years they lived in several locations in New York and Connecticut.  Walt designed and built the family home in the 1970's in Frankfort, NY where they lived for many years before moving to Connecticut.  In 1994, he retired as Chief Engineer for Trainer Systems from Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT with over 30 years of combined service.  Shortly after retirement, they moved to Livingston Manor, NY where they resided for the last 30 years.  Walt was able to pursue his love of antique cars and joined the Catskill Region Antique Auto Car Club.   He restored his coveted 1932 Pontiac rumble seat sport coupe, taking it to car shows and bringing home 1st place trophies from most he attended.  He also had a passion and talent for wood working and has gifted many with his rocking horses, end tables, baby cradles and stereo cabinets to name a few.  Always an animal lover, their countless pets over the years were some of their many treasures.   Nothing brought him more joy in his later years than feeding the deer and chipmunks in their backyard.  There were set feeding times, and the animals would never disappoint.
He is survived by his daughters Lori (Richard) Zarandona and Linda Dawes and also leaves behind his grandchildren Jessica (Robert) Guarraci, Stephen Zarandona (fiancĂ© Kerry Finn), David (Michelle) Bolinski, Bobby (Shelly) Bolinski, Christopher (Nikki) Bolinski as well as several great-grandchildren.  His daughter Donna is pre-deceased.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Roscoe Regional for their kindness and compassion during his stay, as well as his nephew Walter Zeitchel and dear friend Gary Champine for their many visits and endless hours of their company and coffee.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sullivan County Animal shelter in Rock Hill, NY, https://sullivanspca.org.
