Obituary of Nimia H. Mejia

Please share a memory of Nimia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Nimia Mejia announce her passing on October 21, 2022 at age 75 after a lengthy battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. She was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on February 4, 1947 and lived a life full of love, family, and many laughs.

She survived by her children's Jeannette, Nolberto, and Sylvia; 8 Grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Nimia at a young age was well known for her confident stance, never holding back her opinion or thoughts and had a knack for telling it like it is while giving everyone a good laugh. She loved food, even though she hated cooking, she loved the Yankees as much as she loved her cupcakes and

sweets. Although nothing compares to her love of pigs. She collected anything and everything with the sweet little animals on them and has left many behind for her family to cherish for many generations to come.

She enjoyed her career in her local Laundromat while also enjoyed playing the lottery, especially her favorite number 727. Nimia enjoyed socializing and made friends wherever she went, it came naturally to her.

Although born in Puerto Rico she made her way to New York City where she spent her years in Brooklyn then Queens with her husband Carlos. Her last years were spent in Liberty, NY. Enjoying the country life with her cat, Ginger.

She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at St. Peters Catholic Church of Monticello, 10 Liberty Street, Monticello, NY 12701 at 10:00am.
