Obituary of Dolores Grijalba

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dolores "Lola" Grijalba. Dolores died 18 of April 2022 at the age of 96. She left us peacefully while in her home in Kauneonga Lake, New York. Her family was by her side.

Dolores was born on January 13,1926 in Manzanillo, Cuba. Although she had lost her own mother at a very young age, Dolores persevered and overcame many challenges. Her eternal optimism, sense of humor, and faith proved to be a pillar of strength for herself and those she knew.

For Dolores, family meant everything. She became a loving and dedicated wife and mother.

In 1966, as a single mother of 3, Dolores sacrificed everything she had to emigrate with her children to The United States, and provide them with a better life.

Dolores touched many lives. Always showing empathy to those less fortunate, her generosity and caring nature knew no boundaries. Dolores selflessly shared what little she had with anyone in need. She opened her home on more than one occasion, to family members, friends, and even strangers.

As a senior, Dolores would visit her neighbors every day just to make sure they were okay. Dolores would share a cafecito, some conversation, and a laugh. She could lift anyone's spirits. Dolores loved to sing, dance, and be around people. A central part of any gathering, Dolores was the family's Domino Champion. We will never forget playing dominoes with Dolores late into the night, while listening to her favorite band, Trio Matamoros. Dolores had an undeniable zest for life, was quick to tell a joke, and had a bit of sass too.

Dolores's cooking was one of her many gifts. Her signature dishes, Ajiaco and Bacalao, were an unforgettable staple at any family gathering.

Dolores loved to read. With a collection of more than 100 novellas, she often read each book more than once. One of her favorite ways to relax was lying on her couch, reading a good book. Dolores was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each of them immensely. Her laugh, her love, and her warm hugs are something they will never forget. Dolores's generous nature, and kindhearted spirit will always be remembered.

Dolores is survived by her daughter Xiomara Gryszkiewicz and her husband Alfred of Kauneonga Lake NY; as well as her son Luis Gonzalez and his wife Visia of Miami FL. Dolores was also the very proud grandmother to her 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews as well as extended family. All of these Dolores loved very dearly. May she rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Colonial-Ramsay Funeral Home 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, NY 12749 from 2-3:00pm. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 3:00pm. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel, NY.
