Obituary of Shirley Davis

Shirley Moscrop Davis of Grahamsville, NY passed away peacefully at the Glen Arden Health Care Center on Saturday, July 10, 2021.  She was 81.

She was born on September 17, 1939 to John James Moscrop and Lila Seamans Moscrop in Cortland, NY. 

Family was always a top priority for Shirley.  She grew up in Cortland, NY, surrounded by a large and loving extended family with whom she maintained close ties throughout her life.  She met her husband Owen while attending SUNY Albany where they both received bachelors and master’s degrees.  They married on May 30, 1962.   A few years later they made their home in Grahamsville, NY, where they raised their family and remained throughout their adult lives.  Shirley devoted her career to teaching secretarial/business courses at Sullivan County Community College.  A beloved mother and grandmother, Shirley enjoyed swimming and playing games with family and friends, and especially loved spending time with her seven grandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Owen Ferriter Davis, parents, John and Lila Moscrop, sisters, Patricia Stupke and Linda Grant, and daughter-in-law, Jodi Becker Davis. 

Shirley is survived by her children, Paul Davis, Susie Davis-Bower (John), Laurie Bunning (Paul), her grandchildren: Pierce (Nastasha), Jyliann (Kyle), Preston, Owen, Maggie, Morgan, and Jackson, and many extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne on Saturday, July 31st, 2021, from 11 am-1 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Route 55, Grahamsville.  Social distancing guidelines as set forth by the New York State Department of Health will be in place; masks must be worn at all times.
