Obituary of Dorothy Mae Brooks

Dorothy Mae Brooks, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center. She was 85. She was the daughter of the late Clifton Copeland and Rosie Bell McRae, born on July 14, 1935 in Eagle Springs, Monroe County, North Carolina. Dorothy worked various jobs in her lifetime, working at a bar, cleaning hotels and as an employee at Sullivan ARC. She enjoyed spending time out with friends and family just having a good time, especially the days she got to play Bingo. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Aleck Brooks of New York City; daughter Mae Helen Copeland Browne; grandchildren Robert J. Copeland, of Texas and Ricky L. Copeland and his wife Natasha Shorter of Ellenville, NY; great grandchildren Tiffany Kirk, Kwaneek Copeland, D'Andrea Copeland, Tania Wacker, Diamond Copeland, Ricky Copeland, Jr.; brother Grandville Copeland of South Fallsburg, NY; as well as her sister-in-law Nettie Mae "Polly" Copeland and brothers-in-law James A. Cole and Adolf Cole and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her siblings Clifton Copeland, Jr, Ernestine Cole, Nannie Lee Copeland, Clarise Cole, Betty Jean Cole and Carolyn Cole. A visitation will be held from 11am to 12pm on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodbourne Cemetery, Parsonage Road, Woodbourne, NY.
