Obituary of Geraldine Owens

Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Geraldine Pinckney Owens was born on December 4, 1931 to the late George Pinckney and Essie Gillard in Cross, South Carolina. Geraldine, known as Nana, has since went home to be with our heavenly father Jesus Christ on July 5th, 2020 at 3:55am at the Care Center at Sunset Lake in Liberty, New York.

Nana worked as a CNA at Bronx State Hospital and continued in the same field once she and her husband moved to upstate Liberty, NY at Walnut Mountain. Not being able to have kids of her own, she and her husband Edgar Owens decided to help foster kids that needed a home; they ended up sharing their space with 28 kids in total and adopting 5. Nana also raised two of the grandsons as well. Geraldine was the most caring and loving person and would welcome anyone with open arms.

She married Edgar Owens in 1970 and enjoyed a wonderful life together. She loved to crochet blankets and clothing for dolls but Nana was known amongst family and friends for her expertise in the kitchen including baking cookies and sending them out to loved ones. Growing up on a farm, she was no stranger to growing things so one of her favorite things to do was spending her days in her garden where she would grow collard greens, tomatoes, lettuce, squash etc. and give out fresh veggies to people in the community.

Preceding her in death is her husband Edgar Owens, her father George Pinckney, her mother Essie Gilliard Pinckney, her brother J.C. Gilliard, her sister Minnie Williams, her brother Leroy Pinckney and her son Gordon Owens.

Nana leaves behind her sons Randy Owens and Anthony Owens; her daughters Marsha Wallace and Maureen Wallace; her grandsons Sergio Ocasio, Justin Ocasio, Chris Wallace, Brandon Owens, Chris Placide, Randy Owens Jr, Marcus Owens, Darian Owens, Jackson Owens, Tristan Owens, Jadan Owens, Sean Owens and Gavin Owens; her granddaughters, Marqui Ocasio, Torrie Jackson, Brooke Jackson, Brittany Owens, Trinity Owens, Addison Owens, Desiree Lynn Scott and Cherise Wallace; great-grandsons Sergio Ocasio Jr, Aziah Ferguson, Tavius Fasenntar, Zyaire Fasenntar, Aryes Megenity, Able Megenity; her great-granddaughters Kailey Ocasio, Olivia Gill, Skylar Ocasio, Alanna Perozzi, Amora Ferguson, Embry Megenity, Ariella Owens; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be deeply missed.
