Gerald A. Modica known to many as Jerry, from Parksville NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 21, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 58. Jerry was the son of Gerald S. and the late Carmela Modica. Jerry grew-up in Sunnyside, NY. He attended Queen of Angels and Mater Christie High school. After graduating from high school he continued studying at New England Farrier School in Redmond Maine; where he later graduated in 1977. He began his own business as a Farrier and would later service his local area for 37 years. He was an active member of St. Peter’s Church in Liberty NY. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation, Aden Hill Snowmobile Club, the American Farrier Association; and the Parksville Hunt Club. He was a loving man that would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by his family and dear friends but especially his hunting friends that he viewed as his brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Modica, his daughters Erin M. Mulhern of Parksville NY and Patricia Buononato and her husband Michael, his grandchildren Ryley and Shea Buononato of New Windsor, NY ,his sister Suzanne Paterson and her husband Jack, his brother Joseph Modica, his nieces Tara and Heather Paterson, his entire extended family including his dearest sister-in-laws Peggy Ludow of Middietown, Jeanie Lemire of Ramona Ca, Maureen Calvo of Streamwood Il. his dear nieces Amanda, Margaret, Kristin, Michelle, and Nina, and Janine and Nephew Michael, Brian and Billy and a host of friends and wonderful past customers and their horses, of course. One more mention will be his portage Joseph Moran and his wonderful family who have been a solid support for the past 8 months of Jerry’s challenge with his illness. We will be forever grateful. Thank you to all of our many friends for their kindness and love and support during a very difficult time. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 2-4:00pm and 7-9:00pm at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street Livingston Manor, NY 12758. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754 at 11:45am. Interment will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Livingston Manor, NY.
