Obituary of Charles W. DeVoe

Charles W. DeVoe, 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. He will be dearly missed. Charles was born in Livingston Manor on October 10, 1929 to William Ford DeVoe and Edna Fuller DeVoe. Charles is predeceased by his wife Eva Smith DeVoe, brothers Victor and Francis, and sisters Marion Rogers and Lola Fuller. Charles leaves behind his daughters; Brenda and husband William O’Neill of Woodridge, and Deborah and husband Gary Chavis of Gales Ferry, CT. His five grandsons, his pride and joy, Brian of Woodridge, Chris and wife Sarah of Apopka, FL, Jeff of South Fallsburg, Andrew and wife Stacy of Mystic, CT, and Benjamin of Gales Ferry, CT. Four great-grandchildren; Ashelyn and Avery O’Neill of Apopka, FL, Orion Chavis of Jewett City, CT, and Jake Charles Chavis of Mystic, CT. Along with many nephews and nieces. Charles served in the Air Force during WWII as mechanic on aircrafts. He worked for Russell’s Garage & Ford Dealership in Loch Sheldrake for 33 years as a master mechanic and body man. He was acknowledged by Ford Motor Co. as the best carburetors technician on the east coast. After Russell’s closed he went to work for the Fallsburg Central School District as a cleaner and courier for just shy of 10 years. In his late 70’s he took on being a cafeteria monitor at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School. Every one that met Charles knew that he was someone special. He will be sorely missed. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, from 1 to 3 pm at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne NY 12788. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00pm with Rev. Mike Sparrow officiating. Interment will follow at Woodbourne Cemetery.
